I have been working at Renner & Company

Pros

This is a small firm that is trying to grow. Serves a niche market of charities, trade associations, and government contractors in the area (appears to be safe!). You learn various aspects - doing audits, reviews, compilations, providing accounting assistance.

Cons

Almost no benefits - poor health insurance, no 401(k), little to none n profit-sharing. During busy (tax) season, you don't get your paid overtime if you don't work more than 80 hours in overtime. You get the overtime pay at the end of the year, supposedly to help with "cash flow" issues.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees more or they will all leave. Cannot grow if you are losing experienced employees.

Very small firm, but everything about it is bottom-tier.

I have been working at Renner & Company

    Pros

You get a good learning experience (for a few years) working the various aspects of accounting: audit, tax, accounting services, etc.
Flexibility with work hours - you can work part-time if you have a family with young children.

    Cons

High turnover of people. Overworked, highly underpaid (compared to the industry), and almost no benefits. People tend to leave due to lack of incentives and benefits provided. Management also tends to hire people with little to no experience which brings down the profitability of the entire firm. Management wants something without offering nothing in return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just as you have to sell your services to prospective clients, you have to sell your firm to current and prospective employees.

Job offer with a salary so low it was insulting!

    I worked at Renner & Company part-time

    Pros

Company has a reputation for professional integrity and community involvement. Office staff and physical plant are very pleasant.

    Cons

Despite claiming to be satisfied with my credentials the offer was 50% of what I was earning in a similar position. The offer clearly was not made with any serious intent.
