I'm amazed at how much I've learned since arriving here.

Graduate Research Assistant (Current Employee)
Troy, NY

I have been working at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAs one would expect at a top engineering school, I've learned a tremendous amount and had the opportunity to work with a lot of very smart people.

ConsMust pay out of pocket for health insurance. While I have been fortunate, in most cases funding must be renewed each year, leading to uncertainty at times. Conference travel expenses are only supported partially by the school, which means a lot of out of pocket costs for conferences that aren't within driving distance.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

RPI is a great place to learn and research, but does not compensate well.

Pros: Good office space, good heath plan, good retirement plan, access… Cons: Pay, having to work extra hours, pay. Advice to Senior Management: Pay your researchers better. Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More

Disappointing and disorganized depending on department

Research Associate (Current Employee)

I have been working at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute full-time

Pros: Great reputation, excellent location in a town that is slowly but surely bettering itself. Certain departments… Cons: Some departments are incredibly disorganized and falling apart. A lot here has a shiny veneer, but underneath… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
