Research in Motion – “RIM: You can hit big, but more likely you will miss...”
3 of 4 people found this helpfulPros
Competitive salary, solid product, decent vacation time.
There are good opportunities within the company, so "getting your foot in the door" can lead to greater things down the road.
Cons
Disorganization and distraction.
Less "attractive" positions are often misrepresented as a means of attracting applications.
Very short-sighted vision. %400 rework (on average)
Commitment to quality if slipping.
There are groups/teams/departments that have it together, but there are some that seemed to be locked in a downward "firefighting" cycle that impacts the bottom line. Worse still, this teams typically are staffed with people who *thrive* or *love* this kind of stress! However, most do not, so you have high turn-over and overall poor morale.
There is a place for these types of people -- but RIM employs them everywhere and it hurts the company in the end. As RIM grows, the chaos that a lack of process brings will continue to erode it's competitive advantage...
Advice to Senior Management
Technical expertise does not always translate to leadership skill - review those reporting to you and reconsider whether they deserve to be there.
