Resources For Human Development – “Hypocritical senior management, all the way to the top”
Pros
Most of the employees are extremely competent and genuinely care about the people they help. It's a fun place to work, with alot going on both work-related and personal development. A lot of give and take discussion. Vacation benefits are generous, and health care premiums are decently covered for single people. in house training is pretty good especially for front line staff. And if you have a relative that works here, you're in.
Cons
RHD touts itself as a values based agency, but those values -- plastered in every location -- are not followed consistantly. Decisions are arbitrary and capricious. This makes RHD a tough place to work, because you never know when you'll get called on the carpet or for what. The CEO has pet programs, which take precedent all costs, both human and monetary. Pay is on the low side compared to other similar organizations in the area, and raises are rare, unless you're one of the management team's pets.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. Respect your employees. Treat everyone equally. Establish fair personnel procedures, especially when it comes to hiring, reprimand and dismissal. Learn how other nonprofits work.
