I have been working at Resources For Human Development part-time for less than a year

Pros

Great atmosphere. Good place to get your feet wet if wanting to teach adults with developmental delays.

Cons

Unstable working environment and severe mismanagement.
Lack of tentative education plans and curriculum development for teaching artists.
Unstructured in house training.
Lack of direct care staff to help participants in program.
Lack of assisted technology and adaptive devises for severely disabled participants.
No model program or base criteria set for teaching artist and support staff.
No self-defense training required before beginning working on the floor (must be scheduled with RHD).
Senior director lacks:
     • managerial skills necessary for program success;
     • knowledge of and ability to apply facility philosophy, principles & technology;
     • does not have basic budgeting principles;
     • in the ability to build and lead cohesive, successful team(s);
     • communication skills with employees (verbal and written)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a model education plan in place when implementing an art based program that includes a wide array of developmentally delayed individuals. Have strategies to help participants in program who are severely disabled and blind. Very limited choices.

    I worked at Resources For Human Development

    Pros

    Casual work environment, time off

    Cons

    If you want low turnover, mentoring, care or any material advancement this is the last place you want to work. Open space work environment-no offices- no cubicle or any resemblance of one the job you get hired for- your title- does not mean anything once you are in the door you are there's.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Follow your values, and banners they are good but only select people live by them.

    I worked at Resources For Human Development full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Lack of micro-management, empowered, training, opportunities for advancement

    Cons

    I have witnessed some HUB (department) directors with too much power firing people because they just don't 'like' them. Many HUBs have major management drama, and I was lucky.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Have honest conversations with lower-ranked employees and REALLY listen to their concerns as to how they are not being supported & the drama from their directors.
