I worked at Rhode Island School of Design

Pros

Compensation c. $5000 per course is decent compared to adjunct contracts at many other schools. Adjuncts are eligible for conference travel and teaching enrichment grants. Because a large number of adjuncts teach at RISD, staff (admin, library, etc) are accustomed to dealing with the needs of adjuncts and do so well. A strong union protects the interests of adjunct faculty.

Cons

Poor office space resources for adjunct faculty. Adjuncting is a permanent institution here (i.e. low rate of intake of adjuncts into permanent faculty).

I have been working at Rhode Island School of Design

    Pros

The opportunity to work with some of the most creative, talented minds in Fine Arts, Design and Architecture..

    Cons

Management, needs to have better relationships with staff that are not adversarial and are fair. Advancement is very difficult particularly as a staff member. Very little diversity
