Current Employee - Account Executive in Davenport, IA
Current Employee - Account Executive in Davenport, IA

I have been working at Ricoh Americas Corporation full-time (more than a year)

Pros

+ Great manager
+ Flexible schedule, freedom to do your job
+ Backend support for orders and solution design is good
+ Exceptional service techs who know exactly what they are doing
+ Commission on used machines/services/software is very good

Cons

- Base salary will be what you survive on for at least 3-4 months
- Gas reimbursement ($200/mo) is a joke when you spend $350-$500
- Transition to services-led company is under-supported
- Commission on new devices is awful
- Requirements for account executives revolve around information being poured into Salesforce, failure to do so results in unending "conversation" about activity
- Getting rejected (part of sales obviously) on a daily basis in a saturated market

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus efforts more on driving sales through encouragement and contests that aren't a joke. Spreading 1 iPad or $1000 across 5000 reps isn't really a sales contest. Understand that yes, activity drives sales, but more importantly that happy reps who are properly incentivized and encouraged will ultimately grow the business more than an unhappy sales force pushing numbers into a CRM system.

I have been working at Ricoh Americas Corporation full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Ricoh, a fortune 200 company, that has much to offer in the technology sector. As a technician, there are many levels of support that are in place to assist. In addition, the company is a big supporter of training and educating their technicians

    Cons

Areas of opportunity to grow with in the company are not in abundance in the technical arena.

I have been working at Ricoh Americas Corporation full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good health insurance, 401k plan, and other benefits.
Generally an open and friendly work environment within the sales teams.
    Flexible schedules.
    Technology improvements for mobile workers.
Large variety of quality offerings, solutions, and financing to meet customer needs
    Ongoing sales training

    Cons

No accountability between departments, sales has to do many tasks that should be taken care by administration or customer service.
Confusing procedures and lots of "passing the buck"
Constant implementation of new procedures, internal programs, etc. without thorough testing that causes confusion and process slow down.
Very low salaries for sales and low commission payout, comp plan is often confusing or misleading. Inconsistent payout of commissions, often missing or needing corrections.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is a good company with great solutions, but needs a culture overhaul. Create a since of cohesiveness between departments so employees are empowered to go above and beyond to find answers. Why do we have turn over and what can be done to reduce it? Place more value on experience.

Simplify the way information is shared, the new company intranet needs to be organized better, the order/ paperwork process needs improvement, and the commission system needs to be revamped now. Sales needs to trust that they will be paid timely & correctly every time and that they are valued.
