I have been working at Ricoh Americas Corporation full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good benefits; Flexible Work Schedule; Management recognizes that they are in a mature industry and are implementing changes to move to a services provider model and away from a "box slinger"

Cons

Over staffed on the corporate side; coordination and communication between field sales and corporate disjointed; internal systems (billing, commissions) not well designed and implemented.

Advice to Management

Continue the shift to a services led organization; trim corporate functions like Finance and Marketing.

    Pros

Flexibility, good benefits, a lot of good people.

    Cons

All politics. No career path... It's the 'good ole boy' network. No corporate culture. Too many people are hidden in dead-end jobs.

    Advice to Management

Stop re-circulating middle management and get some new blood into the organization. Implement 360 degree reviews for middle management and heed the results. Show some gratitude to the hard working employees across the organization -- not just the sales reps.

I have been working at Ricoh Americas Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Basic manufactured product line is good. Plenty of good employees who really care about the company and want the best for it.

    Cons

Where to start? Rule 1 in sales is customer first. Rule 2 is to find the differentiator, the thing that makes the product or company sold stand out and worth choosing over others. Unfortunately, Ricoh has lost sight of both. Cost cutting has decimated staffing levels. Shipping is slow, service is losing ground and the automated ordering system for toner and service is disfunctional, refusing customer orders and losing service calls. Techs aren't being trained properly any more and they are being forced to recycle parts. Not exactly "customer first". As for Rule 2: Well the equipment is solid. It isn't groundbreaking but it is well manufactured and current. Unfortunately Ricoh is in thrall of its dealer network so there are plenty of other places to get the same thing and they are not as controlled on price so they can be more aggressive. Plus they are allowed to take Ricoh USA customers but Ricoh USA reps are not allowed to compete with their customers. They can also generally deliver equipment more quickly and efficiently as they are not tied to Ricohs consolidated and paperwork heavy warehouses which are models of inefficiency. Well - Ricoh USA must be more specialized and have better expertise as the "Mother Ship", right? Well no. Ricoh USA does have specialists but they are available to the dealers on request, so there goes a differentiator. There was a Managed Document Services division but they only work with a small band of customers who want on site labor and they are also on loan to dealers so no differentiator there either. Ricoh does offer document "solutions" but these are all third party, priced high and available from pretty much everyone else too. If you sell, and want a career, Ricoh is only interested in your success as long as it fits a very narrow set of parameters that suits Ricohs complicated strategy at this time. Your quota won't be lowered though!!

    Advice to Management

Decide who you want to be. This is a half hearted sales organization. If you want to dump the expense of direct sales, just sell the offices and customers off to the dealer network and focus on manufacturing. Or actually hire some software developers and come up with your own products instead of endless flavor of the month partnerships.
