Enjoyed my time there, but am frustrated by the direction the company is taking.

I worked at Ricoh

Pros

Good benefits (vacation time/holidays, medical, dental, vision, etc.)
Nice facility
Some very good people to work with
Good technology in a few specific product areas

Cons

Printing industry is in a major decline
Limited opportunities for advancement
Don't always reward the strongest contributors fairly
Japanese ownership (Ricoh) not very supportive and can take a very long time to make decisions

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would recommend that the company allow this former IBM division to be able to make more of their own decisions without needing approval from the executives in Japan and to trust their expertise and experience more.

    Not a great place

I have been working at Ricoh

    Pros

This place has great benefits. A good amount of vacation (helping to offset the sometimes long hours). There is also some flexibility in work hours.

    Cons

There are many: the software is old, the physical place is very old and there are quite a few people who are also quite old. The latter is not necessarily bad! - except a fair number really should retire at this point: too much carry over from the IBM days; too much siloism and inertia. And too much politics. But the real problem is poor management. To make up for this there are bouts of long hours. I have a hard time seeing how young recruits (like out of college) could get excited by this place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take classes in project management and software quality, or do something else. Further, take classes in leadership. Make people who make decisions and have leadership positions be accountable (instead of hand waving and denial).
