I worked at Rio Tinto full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Employee benefits are amazing - 16 weeks paid maternity leave in addition to the gov't scheme, subsidised private health, very generous annual training budget and possibility of jobs worldwide.

Cons

Very conservative culture with lots of red tape and a seemingly anti-innovation sentiment that contradicts the advertised company values. It's very rare to be promoted internally, most employees that are have left and come back a few years later in higher positions.

Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Great vacation allotment, based on total years experience, not years with the company.

    Cons

Cyclical. Hire and lay off. Repeat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rio has some middle management that does not live the company culture. Only give lip service. Pockets of rot can spread throughout if not dealt with.

    Pros

Solid work group. Good work ethics

    Cons

Very regimental and in many areas, not what you but who you know

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are a large amount of local Australian people willing to work for a good company but the thought that only they can get a cheaper option from overseas and they are not ingrained in Aus Standards.

    Positive Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
