Pros

startup mentaility, team mentality- starts with the leadership team.

Cons

not a lot of praise for a job well done- more of a "what have you done for me lately" mentality.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

you have blown through funding so fast and it has obviously affected the business (2 rounds of layoffs)..let's get backto basics of feeling and spending like a startup- that when we saw our explosive growth.

A great place to work with high potential for growth

    Pros

The best part about RiseSmart is the work environment - It has the personality of the founders, who are outstanding individuals committed to solving the problem of helping people find jobs in this tough economy. This makes for a collaborative work environment in which all employees are working towards helping people who are in a tough spot.

During the time I worked here, I truly felt part of the family (and still do). RiseSmart has a strong culture of celebrating wins and rewarding people for their hard work. Birthdays and other special events were always remembered and celebrated -- every employee feels like they matter.

Additionally, the solution that RiseSmart offers for laid-off workers is the most effective one on the market and many large corporations are realizing that it is the right way to help their employees. With good execution, the company has great potential.

    Cons

RiseSmart has the typical cons of an early stage start-up - It is a high-risk, high reward environment. During my time there, we invested in several ideas - some of which did not succeed. As an employee, you do need to be someone who can adapt quickly and effectively.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep your focus on the core product and invest to win in this market. Push back on the investors when they push you in a different direction. You can beat the competition with your existing model if you continue to invest in making the solution better.

Nice place to work, while it lasts...but it rarely lasts long

    Pros

Friendly, pretty working environment with great people
Terrific benefits, always striving to make employees as happy as possible--even increased PTO when employees complained that 10 days was insufficient
Lots of social interaction for younger employees, company-sponsored parties and such
    Top of the line equipment
Startup without the startup "work till you drop" attitude
Plenty of autonomy, if not flexibility

    Cons

VCs are destroying this wonderful company with poorly thought out knee-jerk decisions
Two major layoffs in the first six months in 2011 with no notice or warning signs
Revolving door upper management (no one except the three principals in upper management lasts more than six months)
VCs have completely unrealistic earnings expectations that can't be met in a company this size or age
For a company that advises other companies about the proper way to handle layoffs, they handle their own really badly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reclaim your company! You had a great concept and a wonderful start. After the VCs sent you reeling in a bunch of different directions, the company lost focus and steam. Please come back to your original values and remember why you started this company.
