I worked at Ritz-Carlton

Pros

Friendly Management, Friendly Co-Workers, Promote from within when applicable, Great Pay and pretty good health benefits, performance driven

Cons

The business landscape is constantly changing, they do not look at education or past experience for promotions, some of the Manager's know what they are doing and some do not have the faintest idea how to work with employees let alone interacting with guests

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should look into an individual's education and past experience in addition to their performance when promoting an employee

    I worked at Ritz-Carlton

    Pros

Learning the art of opperations excellence in a Luxury environment. The credo instils a way of thought that allows for intuitive development of behavioural patterns toward any situation, problem resolution, attention to detail, safety, excellence in work habits and ethics. Much of the above said is also valid for Marriott Managed Hotels.

    Cons

In my experience and opinion the corporate, above property team with Ritz Carlton is very weak. I experienced a lack of sharing of best practices experienced within a region. A sense of "Imperialism" amongst some that didi not foster a positive working relationship. The brand also appears to be weak in the area of financial cost control, synonimous with luxury you may say, but essential in this world and in the back of house there is plenty room to improve.
With Marriott I only had EXCELLENT experiences all round, including the above property management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at Marriott more closely, you will not loose the lion on your shoulder but most definately will learn some about leadership best practice. Evaluate the "Old School" regional leadership team members, do they just manage up?

    I worked at Ritz-Carlton

    Pros

Working in the best locations with some of the best staff assembled in prior years.

    Cons

Ever changing landscape with Marriott constantly making adjustments in Senior Leadership. Ritz-Carlton becoming just another brand in the Marriott family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good luck in the coming years - this brand will never achieve the notirity and loyalty of the past years.
