I have been working at Rocketship Education full-time for less than a year

Pros

-awesome kids
-mission driven company
-most of your coworkers are awesome, innovative people who genuinely want to create change in a community
-really excellent benefits packages, even for hourly employees

Cons

-really high turnover in teachers since most are hired from Teach for America
-things are CONSTANTLY changing
-hourly employees are not well compensated for what they are expected to do
-many problems that occur are embedded in the model of Rocketship, and sometimes it feels like you're either with them, or not...trying to address critical problems to management is difficult because it is often taken as "Anti-Rocketship" culture

Advice to ManagementAdvice

-allow a safe space for employees to address their issues
-if possible, double the outdoor space of each site (or consider building on larger sites when opening new schools). this would seriously solve so many unnecessary issues.

I have been working at Rocketship Education

    Pros

cute kids, not much else to say. Higher ups are horrible. Teachers are nice.

    Cons

corporate culture, morons in charge, stay away from this place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

this isn't for you. Work somewhere where being verbally abusive and rude will earn you respect. Or take a business relations , humanity or common sense class for God sakes.

I worked at Rocketship Education full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Teachers are, for the most part, highly motivated and hard-working.

    Cons

    - Hours: 7:45-4:30 with kids, then add prep. Also at least 1 late evening event each month that teachers are expected to prep and attend.
    - Data driven to the extreme. Student scores = your salary. This creates a high pressure environment which is made more intense since individual teacher scores are compared within and across Rocketship schools.
    - Have personally witnessed teachers/administrators cheating to make data numbers higher.
    - 2x the kids for literacy, 4x the kids for math. Hard to build relationships with students and families.
    - NO FOCUS on science or social studies.
    - Inexperience at all levels of leadership (principals with 2 years teaching experience...)
    - Most teachers are new teachers (1-2 years experience, heavily TFA).
    - Dishonest to the community about time students spend on computers. 1.5 hours for K and 1st, higher for upper grades.
