I have been working at Rockwell Collins

Pros

There is a good variety of work and the work/life balance is OK on most projects. There is about a 50/50 split on defense/commercial work which helps the overall stability of the company

Cons

The first and second level of engineering managers tend to be people who weren't ever good with the technical aspects of their job and so they moved into management. The Human Resources department exists only to punish employees who annoy their pointy-haired bosses (think "Catbert").

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help young engineers find a job that aligns with what motivates them. The current practice of punishing good people who are in simply in poorly suited jobs hurts the overall company.

    Provides a good work life balance. Employees are treated fairly.

    The work seems to be a little behind technology changes. The processes are sometimes over bearing.

    Pros

    Innovative technology and customer solutions are amazing
    Sr Leadership is extremely talented and well respected
    Benefits and Compensation are excellent

    Cons

    Different departments do not work together as a team
    Program management team does not work effectively with other organizations
    Politics get in the way of progress within middle management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Provide additional rotation oportunities to high performing employees including managers
    If LEAN is a competitive advantage for Rockwell Collins invest in LEAN rather than just checking the box month to month
