I have been working at Rockwell Collins full-time

Pros

Well planned projects move quickly. Some flexibility on technology choices. Overall friendly atmosphere. Have access to newer technologies on a few projects. Management is flexible with work/ life balance.

Cons

Too few talented people: many survive by seniority. Most work outsourced to untrained programmers. Few opportunities for advancement if you are not outsourced.

Many projects are under-funded or short-scheduled. This leads to expected crisis near end of most projects. This leads to lots of overtime.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Internal divisions and politics leads to waste. No reason to work too hard: no reward or upside.

    Pros

IPP bonus and pay raises that matches performance. Flexible work schedule and adequate health benefits. The work can be interesting and fosters a sense of value to the work.

    Cons

Corporate sponsored day care has one of the highest rates in the city. The company's executive management seems more interested maintaining profitability rather than product investment. Innovative development is difficult in the the very rigid process life cycles. Also, as a whole compensation is falling behind the curve.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain your product funding profiles for new products. Change is needed to ensure employee retention occurs.

    Pros

Fair compensation package, good people, great product, room for advancement, Cedar Rapids is a good place to live, knowledgeable co-workers.

    Cons

Competition is catching up to us, causing lost sales. Too many RIF's since I've been here (4 years). Unstable business future.
