Pros

Exceptional CEO - Clay Jones is a charismatic, focused and driven leader Strong financial position of the company Great work life balance

Cons

Iowa/Cedar Rapids centric culture Lacking in true Global Diversity

Advice to Management

If Rockwell Collins wants to become a global company, you should focus on building a globally diverse senior leadership structure. The focus of diversity at Collins appears to be based on skin color as opposed to building a true and exceptional workforce that has strong global work experiences. Company should look outside its walls to attract & retain senior leaders.

    Pros

    - Jobs available in commercial or government applications, balance the company when either sector is down - If you have a family, the education system in the area is boosted by donations. - Opportunities to be a "hero", working long hours to make a deadline or finding a way to do something better on your own.

    Cons

    - Engineers are hired without proper screening to fill positions, and ensure customers are billed hours. Poor employees take years to be removed, if ever. - Employees benefits suffer, while earnings per share increase. - Work is largely redundant. Very few people will do anything cutting edge. - Communication and teamwork is largely extinct. - If you're young and single, you'll find the town lacking variety. Major cities are within driving distance for weekends. - Product cycle times are being scheduled shorter, but effort was not placed into making it possible with the same amount of man power first. - Many good engineers go into non-technical roles because it's their best place for advancement and pay increase. Draining knowledge and experience from the remaining pool.

    Advice to Management

    - Improve the hiring process to bring in quality engineers. Ensure poor performers find their way out. - Follow through on ideas. Back them till success or scrap them for something better.
