Very frustrating place to work. They trade too much on the name.

I worked at Rolls-Royce

Pros

Benefits were pretty good but salaries were below average.

Cons

Very bureaucratic organization that can't see the forest for the trees. Incredibly slow and difficult to get anything done. Reputation for undeserved arrogance in the industry.

    Exciting and interesting work but constant poor upper management in the UK hinders job performance and satisfaction.

    I have been working at Rolls-Royce

    Pros

    -Fantastic people; hard-working, intelligent, and fun
    -Interesting work
    -Amazing products
    -Great office location

    Cons

    Nearly all of the cons are related to parent company (Rolls-Royce plc) not understanding the US market or management problems in the UK:
    - terrible healthcare (may be similar to market in Indianapolis (large Rolls-Royce facility) but not similar to DC market;
    - low pay for the work performed;
    - horrifyingly poor IT (Reston team has much better IT than corresponding teams in UK);
    - incredibly bureaucratic organization that hinders employees ability to respond to the needs of both the business and its customers;
    - global company that cannot seem to understand how to function outside the UK.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Rolls-Royce North America is a wonderful place to work but major management problems at Rolls-Royce plc are sending great employees running (both in the US and the UK). Learn from your divisions in the US and Germany: decisiveness is good, invest in technology for employees to do their jobs more effectively (not just R&D for products), and understand that employees do have choices. Also understand that it is not a complement that customers describe the firm as British.

    I have been working at Rolls-Royce

    Pros

    The organization is generally cooperative with work life balance issues. It is an opportunity to work for an international organization.

    Cons

    The company is very political. Decision making seems to be made for personal rather than professional reasons. Talent level is poor. Working conditions in Indianapolis are horrible. The organization has been a dissapoinment to me on almost every level.
