Pros

The pay is reasonable (stateside, I can't speak for the UK) and if you're personable you will likely rise to the top of your skill level. Generally the company takes good care of its employees and, for the most part, operates with a low stress work place environment.

Cons

I can only speak for the engineering side of the business, but the upward mobility is incredibly limited (and rightly so) by experience. Without a large base of technical knowledge there are very few avenues for advancement. No matter how good you are at your job, you will have to just keep your nose to the grindstone for 5+ years without appreciable advancement.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise your expectations of employees. People will only work as hard as they have to to not to get fired, and since almost no one gets fired/let-go, they're not working very hard. A strict "number of years of experience" for promotion does not build an efficient or effective company hierarchy. Middle management needs to do a better job of orienting people on career paths which fit their personality type and skill set, i.e. don't make someone a manager just because they have X number of years of experience and "want" to become one.

    Pros

The security of being in the nuclear field. Same people as Brooks-good people to work with. Good 401k.

    Cons

Nuclear minimum wage. Unfortunately, the best guys(hardest to replace) are talking about moving on and no effort has been made to replace the few people already lost. Field service has approximately 12 members. Engineering manufacturing and management make up about 80% of this field service company.

    I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time

    Pros

    Location, Location, Location.
    Good holiday schedule.
Prestigious name recognition, impresses folks who don't know any better.

    Cons

"Agile" work environment. Planned space deficiency.
Benefits are sub-par. PTO program means if you get sick you forfeit your vacation, so come to work sick.
The culture values unpaid overtime. Work/Life balance is non-existant. They prefer a work/work balance.
    Training is new employees responsibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider a full training program to get employees productive sooner.
Agile work environment does not work. It's too noisy and does not encourage the employee to "own" the job if they don't even have a space to call their own.
