I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Challenging work
Lots of opportunity
Smart people (salary employees)

RR offers lots of challenging work with room to grow for those with the gumption. Lots of resources available for work and initiatives.

Cons

The attitude of most of the union employees (as well as some salary employees) is one of detached entitlement. Most of the salary employees want to move forward efficiently and productively while the majority of the union employees hamstring efforts with the same, tired union politics and shenanigans.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start letting the new and younger employees that show desire, intelligence and work ethic take the reigns. The "old-timers" with the GM/union mentality are killing the company.

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The products & technology you will be exposed to at Rolls-Royce are interesting & challenging. There are quite a few good people & many are exceptionally intelligent. It is very hard to get fired, so the job is very stable.

    Cons

There is a "consensus culture", where many different opinions & approvals are needed before anything can be done. Part of this is big business, but it seems especially bad here. Leadership is, at best, simply bad at communicating. At worst, they seem a bit clueless. The company is made up of "silos" and "fiefdoms", with different functions & businesses vying for control. This, of course, makes it hard to get anything done or changed for the better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Set up an organization focused on single-point accountability. Ensure roles & responsibilities are clearly defined, both for individuals and for the various areas of the business. Also ensure this is understood at the lowest levels of the organization, not just in the top layers.
