Its a stable job but doesn't allow much room for new ideas or actual engineering

I have been working at Rolls-Royce full-time for less than a year

Pros

The pros of the job are being part of such a big global corporation. The customers are located all over the world and there's plenty of opportunity to get familiar with other cultures in different areas of the world.

Cons

The company is so pre-occupied with their processes, it makes the efficiency and productivity suffer severely. I've been there almost a year now, and I haven't actually done any real engineering yet. Majority of the work consists of pushing papers and getting trained on all the processes they use.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is very open to hearing the employees and trying to make things better. The turn over rate is somewhat high so a lot of good ideas are started but aren't really followed through with. My advice to management would be to focus less on processes to improve things and give more authority to engineers to allow them to follow through with their tasks.

I worked at Rolls-Royce full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The Rolls-Royce Takover Target submitter hit it right. Training is great - they basically have a university with great classes and instructors. The benefits are pretty good. Starting salaries are competitive. They have an interesting product - if you are "into" jet engines. They have a great library and a museum.

    Cons

Forget about getting a raise. They are continuing to cut benefits ( the company is bleeding cash - it costs R-R more $$ to make a jet engine than what they sell for). Their suppliers tell R-R what to do. They tell R-R to change their quality specifications (in the supplier's favor) or the supplier will raise their prices. Management beats the heck out of their "underlings" come performance review time (management sets expectations that can't be met - therefore, they have a reason to fire you - in case they want). And the owners, R-R U K, is just look only at the numbers R-R N/A is producing and not the whole picture of what is going on. Very difficult to advance or transfer positions. Cumbersome systems to work with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Back off your employees, if they are not producing what you want, help them.
