Pros

Rolls-Royce is a globally recognised brand. Just having the name card opens doors at all levels within other organisations. What's more, Aerospace, both civil and defence, are on the bleeding edge of technology development. As one of the world's bets engineering companies seeing new and burgeoning technologies is a daily occurrence. In addition, work life balance is good and my work schedule can be quite flexible.

Cons

Rolls-Royce is matrix organisation and therefore clear reporting lines and accountability are almost non-existent. There are exceptions, but by and large it is easy to hide behind the complexity. We spend far too much time driving consensus and not enough time making and implementing decisions. Rolls-Royce also has some remanence of the civil service culture that permeates much of our decision making process. We are top heavy and do not empower people to make decisions and then hold them accountable.

Advice to Management

Walk the halls. Talk with your people.

    Pros

Motivating, innovating and highly educational environment. Friendly, open and multicultural.

    Cons

Because the company is large (40000+) sometimes you have to deal with a lot of paperwork that you don't find in smaller companies.

    Advice to Management

    No direct contact with management

    Pros

Fantastic Location (Berlin Office), which meant that the work life balance was excellent. They were very strict in enforcing a balanced life style which was appreciated, but also irritating as there was sometimes not enough emphasis put upon deadlines. Very friendly colleagues and opportunities to move around the organisation. Fantastic product to work on.

    Cons

Sections had become very protective of their own budgets and this detracted from the unified feeling of the organisation. The organisation had just gone through a re-shuffle and it had yet to resettle.

    Advice to Management

Upper management lacked decisiveness and seemed to be focusing too much on ancillary issues rather than the core issue which was respect for deadlines. Appeared that it was difficult to get people to move on from the organisation, individuals who delivered poor work were too highly tolerated.
