Pros

GREAT product - free to those who work there.
The people that do the work are extremely talented
Casual work environment
Free drinks
NO traffic

Cons

Senior management seems to have NO clue. Which is apparently shown via the CEO being forced to Step down.
Tries to be apple or google while ending up more of a frat house cowboy coding style.
Senior QA Leadership is a joke. Manages in fear of losing his own job so has to write everyone else up, in one case for another manager taking his team out for icecream!
Everyone at the manager level up is looking out for there own jobs and in the meantime nothing is getting done. Actually there is nothing else to do, the new product failed.

Advice to Management

Go back to northern va. Get rid of all the dead weight and get back to what made you successful, language learning! No customer success, no fancy HQ in Rosslyn, no BS!

  1. Working at the kiosk is very easy as long as you know the software. There is no growth opportunity from this job.

    Pros

    (1) Free access to all the languages.
    (2) Great commission when you make sales goals (10-15% on average, depending on the month)
    (3) Manager is amazing to work for. Very very flexible.
    (4) Independent job. If you don't like dealing with co-worker drama, this job is for you. You work alone 100% of the time.
    (5) Septa train pass discount for airport employees. Also, airport marketplace/food discount (10% off) for airport employees.
    (6) EASY JOB!
    (7) If you like people-watching, you've found the job of your dreams.
    (8) If you're good at selling, you'll make pretty good money for working at an airport selling software!! ($31,000/yr is what I'm making, that's 15% on $9/hr)
    (9) Cobalt blue (or black) uniform button-down shirt, instead of the ugly PHL uniforms that everyone else who works in the airport has to wear.
    (10) Very easy to learn how to process a sale. Not much computer training is needed... just product knowledge & sales tricks.

    Cons

    (1) Working at the airport is terrible. (Dealing with the TSA- security scanning every day, higher cost of airport food, dealing with rude travelers who take their negativity out on you for no reason, 40 minute train commute into center city)
    (2) Low hourly pay.
    (3) Shifts are either really early morning (7am-2:30pm) or run late into the night (2:30pm-10pm)
    (4) Fighting boredom when it's slow.
    (5) Everyone asks "how many languages do YOU know?" It gets annoying, especially when you just start and only know a little of one language + English. Hard to express to the customers that "it really works!!!!!!" when you, yourself, haven't seen it work yet.
    (6) When there aren't any promos for the kiosk, everyone buys it online instead of from you. This cuts down your commission check.
    (7) If you're looking for a job that has growth opportunities, look elsewhere. There is nothing. You work at a kiosk until you quit and move to something else. End of story.

    Advice to Management

Offer more growth opportunities for kiosk associates.

    Pros

Great brand, great marketing, useful product, great people, great location (Harrisonburg), smart developers, relaxed environment, free beverages, always improving, free access to all products

    Cons

There is little innovation due to the top-down management approach. Things move very slowly, and the organizational culture does not facilitate inter-department communication well.

    Advice to Management

Hire smart people, then trust them. They won't get it right 100% of the time, but then again, neither will you.
