I worked at Rosetta Stone

Pros

It was fun to meet people from around the city and the world. I was able to learn many words from other languages by demoing the software to others.

Cons

The upper management team was often times stern and mean towards employees. There was very little in the way of career development opportunities and such at this company.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

People need a reason to work hard and this type of job is very lonely. The majority of the time you pitch a sale the client will not buy it due to it's priceyness. Because of this the relationship with eash store/kiosk manager and it's employees is crucial, as is the relationship with upper managers who may visit occasionally. People need to be INSPIRED by there leaders!

    I worked at Rosetta Stone

    Pros

The product was fun, interactive, and effective
The variety of customers who shared different motives and situations to learn a language
The opportunity to meet new people and do sales presentations daily
The opportunity to immediately see and hear customers' feedback about product working for them.

    Cons

standing for 12 hours daily and working back-to-back shifts
Lack of corporate support to recruit, retain, and reward qualified sales associates
Limited and poorly executed sales training with no follow up
Executive management constantly changing product promotions
Sales contest prizes being promised, but delayed when goals achieved
Commission being cut back while regional sales forecast raised higher than the CEO's forecast
Lack of personal connection and communication between national and local offices
Regional mgmt lack of follow thru or feedback on initiatives and projects to improve performance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than be product-centric as evidenced by your mission, actions, communication. Focus on taking great care of internal customers (employees) and external customers. Be more proactive and consistent when doing employee evaluations just like your product gives immediate feedback. What prevents you from developmenting an internal communication tool and culture as engaging, fun, and effective as your product?

I have been working at Rosetta Stone

    Pros

GREAT product - free to those who work there.
The people that do the work are extremely talented
    Casual work environment
    Free drinks
    NO traffic

    Cons

Senior management seems to have NO clue. Which is apparently shown via the CEO being forced to Step down.
Tries to be apple or google while ending up more of a frat house cowboy coding style.
Senior QA Leadership is a joke. Manages in fear of losing his own job so has to write everyone else up, in one case for another manager taking his team out for icecream!
Everyone at the manager level up is looking out for there own jobs and in the meantime nothing is getting done. Actually there is nothing else to do, the new product failed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to northern va. Get rid of all the dead weight and get back to what made you successful, language learning! No customer success, no fancy HQ in Rosslyn, no BS!
