Former Employee - Planning Analyst in New York, NY

    I worked at Ross Stores

    Pros

    - Benefits are very good (Time off, medical, etc.)
    - Work Environment is very laid-back
    - Very flexible about taking vacation time off
    - Management is usually very supportive

    Cons

    - Lower than Average Pay
    - Very process driven (Can be very tedious)
    - Depending on what department you're in, the responsibilities are different, therefore the expectations are very different from area to area and are easily muddled
    - Hard to tell if you are making a significant impact on the company
    - Might as well be able to wear jeans all the time. (not a serious con, just a recommendation)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Develop a uniform set of expectations and standards for analysts. Not to say that responsibilities have to be all the same, but an analyst should know what he/she needs to do to get to the next level.
    - Start with the systematic way of completing tasks, then innovate. Too much of the time was spent on needless analysis and inefficient methods of completing tasks
    - There are too many methods of analysis. It is good to get perspective from all types of views, but often times initial analysis gets completely wiped out when looking at it another way, which is horribly inefficient.
    - Make sure the analysts you manage are not just satisfied, but actually happy with where they are in their career development.
