I have been working at Ross Stores part-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

The best reasons to work at Ross are the co-workers. Very diverse. Most of the employees really get along well and work great as a team. OK if you want to work full time or get into management.

Cons

Overworked. Very underpaid. The work itself is not bad, your just not compensated for it. If you get offered a higher position beware before you take it. Most of the time it's just more responsibility for you and more hours for the same amount of pay. You get a raise once a year, so most likely you will stay close to minimum wage no matter how long you work there.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't share employee info. with other employees. Not good management ethics!

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

20% discount, some stores have great management (mine included). 3-4 times a year you get a week of "double discounts" (40%) which is AWESOME. Great job for school-age/college students who just need some money and don't mind crappy work.

    Cons

Too many schedule changes without notification, when you are hired or scheduled for one job you end up doing many of the other jobs in the store while you already have your own job to get done because they never schedule enough people. Also, usually one person ends up doing all the jobs in the store because some people are allowed to slack off and management doesn't care as long as the work is getting done by SOMEBODY.

If you are on the stock team you are usually scheduled for 22 hours per week, but if you get a big truck they will ask you to stay and don't take it very well if you can't because you have other things you've got to do outside your scheduled shift. Customers are usually brutal and management typically never takes your side on issues. The store is kept very hot in the summer (so hot the customers even complain that they don't want to shop in the heat) since the temperature is controlled from some other location.

If you are PERFECT you will be lucky enough to receive a few cents raise every year. Management usually is very lenient with the slackers but very harsh with the hard-workers (who work hard for VERY little pay or recognition). They act as though you are the devil if you call out with a legitimate reason for your first time in a year, yet they let some people call out for no reason all the time. They don't realize they are driving away their most loyal hardworking employees, though they don't seem to care.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your associates what they deserve and stick to your own policies. Treat your associates with respect and side with them on issues. Work with them to solve probems with scheduling or personal issues outside of work. They DO have lives.

I have been working at Ross Stores full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of growth potential in both the Ross Dress for less and dds chains.

    Cons

Positions may be listed as open on job board postings, but decisions made prior to applicants review. Not fair and open, and not all leaders model the professional behavior they shoudl as leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch out for some bad practices being reported. Not all management tells the truth, nor do they create a workplace that values real people relationships, they just sya they do
