I worked at Ross Stores full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The people and work at Ross are actually very good, the pay and benefits are OK.

    Cons

Don't bother giving them a 2-week notice when you're ready to leave for another job or personal decision: they will show you the door right away, not pay you a penny more, and cut off your benefits immediately. Although the Employee Handbook explicitly requests a 2-week notice for departing employees, it makes no mention of their so-called "policy" of dismissing you right away: only HR will tell you that once they're already asking you to leave with no offer to compensate you and, if pressed, they further explain that it's within their right and they have no legal obligation, even when most companies will compensate you for the time without work. While it's not unreasonable for a company to show you the door when you tell them you're leaving as they might be concerned you're going to a competitor, it is quite common and considered good practice for companies to pay dismissed employees for their time. It is a bit of a double-standard for them to ask you for a courtesy notice when they're unwilling to reciprocate. If you decide to work there, be sure to use them as a stepping stone but don't trust them when you're ready to move on, and forget traditional courtesy of a notice because they will use it to burn you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent with employees, pay them what they're rightfully due and what is fair, and treat them with respect and financial courtesy
