I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Career Opportunities Resume Building 20% Discount Face Paced

Cons

Having a different management style from the store manager can make things tricky. All associates have to work at 100% for the business model to work. 80 associates at 100% and 1 associate at 75% and the model fails.

Advice to Management

Don't trust store managers. They will lie about associates/supervisors/asms so they aren't held accountable.

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Ross Stores part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Friendly and helpful co-workers (and most managers) -Enjoy being a cashier -They keep us up to date with daily "rally meetings" -Employee discount (on already cheap prices) -Being the first to see all the new inventory and choose from it -Birthday celebrations -30 day accident-free celebrations -Required 15 minute break for a 4 hour shift

    Cons

-Minimum wage -Never-ending work, work, work -Large sections assigned to single person, and it's hard to do your section well if you're constantly being called up the front as a cashier -Customers make the biggest messes right after you've JUST thoroughly cleaned and organized everything -Miscommunication between management leads to some associates getting yelled at -Not enough recognition for new employees -16 hrs a week = Four 4-hr shifts = Lots of wasted money on gas....would prefer just TWO days of 8 hours each -Store manager is often disrespectful

    Advice to Management

Please recognize that we work hard and deserve more than minimum wage. Hire respectful store managers who know how to communicate.

I worked at Ross Stores full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

the only pro was that the salaries are very competitive

    Cons

There is no work/life balance- they expect you to work late and bring work home every night. Buyers are not trained to be managers and have no idea how to speak to, train and develop those working for them. This was the most hostile and abusive environment I have ever worked in.

    Advice to Management

You should listen to the assistants and find out what is really going on instead of looking at the bottom line.
