Pros

Great Discount and good work/life balance. No real Black Friday BS.

Cons

Very low pay. High associate turnover especially since P/T associates only get 20 hrs and no benefits. Management can't figure out that when someone can get a minimum wage job 5 minutes from their home they give themselves a raise by not driving 20 minutes to get to Ross.

Managers do not manage as much as lead from the front end. An Area Supervisor will spend 40 to 50 % of the time on a busy day ringing on a register or recovering their area even if they are the Manager on Duty. Minimal budgets for floor associates require managers to work the whole store, unloading and processing trucks, running fitting room racks and go-backs to the floor as well as all of the recovery, sizing and merchandising. You generally don't have anyone to supervise so you have to get the work done yourself.

Training programs are designed for the lowest of the lowest knowledge levels so they are more of review for more experienced managers and will only provide the most basic information. They will not enhance or develop any real skills in managers due to their simplistic presentation and real applicability on the job. NO REAL PROGRAMS FOR DEVELOPMENT even though everyone is on a development plan.

Advice to Management

GO INCOGNITO! Do the "Undercover Boss" thing if you have the guts to really see what goes on in your stores. Don't impose programs on stores even when feedback is negative (Like the Fast SKU program that was "loved by the test stores". NOT MINE! We hated it and said so as did every other manager in our district but You ignored us.

    Pros

the company offers a 20% employee discount

    Cons

no advancement with in the company, poor hourly pay, part timers only get 18 hours, full timers are given too much to do & no time to do it, District managers & Upper Management are out of touch with the store employees, Lack of open communications, Fear Tactics used on employees

    Advice to Management

company preaches open communication with team members but no true. Upper management needs to experience all jobs within the store before judging. Company only wants to hear the good and not the bad. Regional management & Corporate need to look hard at themselves
