    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Royal Bank of Canada full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - training budgets available for those who ask - decent compensation, excellent benefits and decent bonus system - decent work/life balance - excellent project management practices and opportunity to learn formal project management - decent reward mechanisms for rewarding employee successes; can be mechanical at times within IT - great place for mid 30s MBAs who want a career in financial services

    Cons

    - very slow moving organization when it comes to technology change; follower not a leader - high involuntary turnover for those over 50, happens every few years - IT services have been constantly outsourced to overseas; requiring fewer local staff - high;y political organization; make sure you develop internal networks and know who your friends are - slow corporate advancement; too many people competing for senior jobs - wide variation in people management of senior management, executives; either great or really bad - mistakes can be career enders; leads to people hiding their mistakes - less transparency - internal movement to other positions could be a career ender with your current boss - when projects complete you will need to find your next job internally; don't count on anyone to do it for you

    Advice to Management

Don't stifle innovation by being unforgiving on risks that people take. Can lead to a really risk averse (CYA) culture.

I worked at Royal Bank of Canada part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great training programs Constantly trying to improve client experience Great marketing of Brand

    Cons

Difficult to gain full time employment even for star performers Goals are set very high which creates a lot of day to day stress Strange hours - nights and weekends are common

    Advice to Management

Encourage upward mobility. Empowering the employees to meet their goals will ultimately improve the quality commitment and motivation of employees, while decreasing turnover, negativity and apathy.
