I have been working at Royal Bank of Scotland

Pros

Good pay, good benefits, flexibility in terms of work-life balance.
People tend to be relaxed about their job - a bit too relaxed

Cons

Management doesn't really get it in terms of what it takes to be a competitive bank.
Very political - people who have been there for the longest have an advantage.
Does not seem to be a meritocracy - it is NOT true that the best ideas are encouraged
Extremely few are genuinely interested in doing what is right for the bank.
Plans of action are backwards: instead of first establishing the goals and then the way to get there, there is an undue focus on structure, meetings, processes, without a clear understanding of what the point is.
No willingness to cut deeply and eliminate excess jobs, but rather a slow and painful bleed - affects morale a lot.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You could be doing the same job with 1 out of every 3 people, you just need to identify them and promote them.
