Current Employee - Musical Director in Miami, FL

I have been working at Royal Caribbean Cruises as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Travel the world. As musical director you lead, schedule, and manage 20+ musicians. You will gain Middle management experience. Because you are a musician mainly, you are a tourist / manager during the day and a performer / manager at night.

    Cons

NEVER off duty, not really. Live, eat, sleep in cabins next to everyone you work with. Terrible food sometimes. Superiors are constantly asking for reports and suggestions, yet nothing ever gets fixed, ever. Tiny living quarters. Same thing every week, week after week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Everyone at this company seems to work harder at avoiding responsibility and not doing their work than they actually do at just doing their jobs. The company slogan of "own the problem" needs to be directed more towards internal affairs and operations, not just guest satisfaction.
