I worked at Rubio's Restaurants part-time for more than 3 years

Pros

It's a great company for anyone looking to grow as a young or inexperienced member of the workforce. Managers are great mentors! Training programs are top-notch and set a great example for what you should expect from any future employer.
They promote from within and offer opportunities for growth and development to those who step up and show that they want it.

Cons

Promotions are possible, but often take a long time and pay raise freezes can be discouraging for long-time employees. Oftentimes I witnessed employees being promised a promotion or raise but without follow-through.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the needs of every one of your employees. High turn-over can be avoided by open communication.

    Pros

Good momentum for positive change in the company from a turnaround situation, good people working there, good CEO and founder, open to changing and trying new things

    Cons

Low salary compared to other jobs with a given experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employees a heads up if they have something to work on, rather than being blind sighted in the performance review

I have been working at Rubio's Restaurants full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Relaxed environment, the people are fun and we laugh a lot. Not micro-managed

    Cons

Communication within the entire organization is lacking, whether it is between depts, or managers filtering information down the chain of command. The atmosphere in which people work varies GREATLY based on the management chain. Some managers make a point to demonstrate their appreciation of their teams, and other managers do nothing for their teams - there is no guidance from the top leadership of how to treat your employees. Playing "Favorites" here is a big thing. Policies are not enforced uniformly, it depends on if the boss likes you or not, and if the boss of other people like them or not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop letting the tail wag the dog. Give direction from the top down - whether that is operations, training on administrative matters, enforcing policies uniformly. Rubio's is no longer a "ma and pa" little taco shop, you can't run the corporation as if it were.
Oh, and you might want to inform your corporate officers, that the law is not optional. Compliance needs improvement. This is also a culture point that MUST change. This attitude is reprehensible!
