Ruby Tuesday General Manager in Knoxville, TN:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Opportunity to move through the ranks up to General Manager due to turnover.

Cons

The company believes in change for the sake of change, often shooting from half court hoping for the best. The company has recently tried to reposition themselves into the upscale casual dining sector. This move came at a time when the economy was beginning to slow and the chain's customer base wasn't interested in overpriced drinks and $10 dollar hamburgers.

Advice to Senior Management

Stick with what you know! Move back into a casual dining price point. The low carb menu was a big hit and since its great success the company has been blindly swinging trying to hit another one out of the park. New ideas are great when the are fully thought through.

by Former General Manger in Atlanta, GA:

As a former GM that was shot up through the ranks at lightning speed per the demise of some other poor overworked individual I could not agree more with the turnover comment. Yes the re-image, re-model, mistake, whatever you want to call it was not a smart move on Sandy's part or that of his team of carefully assembled "Yes Men" . Hey let's abandon the patrons that put us on the map by telling them they don't meet the income class we desire, Excuse me I realize that you've always been a loyal guest here every Friday for 10 years, but I have to ask is you're income bracket high enough to eat these "minis" COME ON! But don't forget some of the other great decsions this company made over that last few years. The number two spot after the re-image was MFE. (AKA the 3 man team for many) Many of the GM's that I worked with saw their hours each week soar in what was suppost to be a "Quality of Life Move". Good one Maryville, you had me fooled, at least until one of my managers went on vacation and I worked 80 hours. I can picture a certian Senior VP at Year End Meetings giving a perfectly good reason as to why GM turnover tripled after rolling out this program. Hope the money they saved by stealing our Kitchen Managers covered the turnover bill they racked up, but remember thats minus the $1 per hour raise that was given out to your favorite BOH team member to run your kitchen. Come on $1, quality of life, wake up and realize that all of your CHANGE is destroying what at one time, was a "Great Place to Work"! Good luck in this economy Mr. Beall I hope you have enough stock left to hold your dictatorship another fiscal year!!! As for the 5 or 6 remaining shares of RT that I have left, I am hoping to buy a pack of smokes and maybe a stick of gum if I'm lucky!!!
