I have been working at Rural King full-time (less than an year)

Pros

Working with the Public. I work at the service desk, So i get to both greet the customer as they come in, but I also get to thank them for shopping at our store .

Cons

Hey what can I say its retail, so weekends are a must, but on a high note, the store hours are very reasonable, 7am-9pm every day.

I worked at Rural King full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

15% discount, 401K that will match half up to 6% , associates can invest into the company stock which just started in 2012, good medical & dental insurance, flexible hours, able to transfer to different locations fairly easy, numerous new locations making it EASY to move up as long as you have decent work ethic, offers vast experience in retail.

    Cons

pay is not market competitive, HORRIBLE training program and most would say "what training?" , communication is a big failure, store managers change a lot leaving associates feeling unstable, Corp executives positions have been changing numerous times due to "Larger retail" associates coming to Rural King, stores get to many Corp executives giving direction making it hard to decide what to do at times. A store can get direction in a days time for the Owner, President, C.O.O, regional on top of what the store manager wants done making some things seem like a endless battle of the titans being taken out on the associates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a better training program like Wal-Mart, Lowes & Home Depot! If safety was at all a concern for you on your associates & customers this would be done.

To many Corp executives giving direction without following up with other Corp executives making the contradicting emails seem like they are from a circus. If that problem was fixed communication within the company would drastically improve.

I worked at Rural King full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    The job pays the bills

    Cons

Unorganization, bad management, no accountability, favoritism, drama

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to focus on a business plan that works for Rural King, instead of trying to make WalMart's plan work for Rural King. The logistics department at corporate needs to be more organized.
