Pros

good pay,good vehicles,good location,great co-workers

Cons

No performance reviews
Passing the buck to the lower echelon
Not enough equipment to support job functions
management does not respect the workers

Take care of your employees by providing a way to remain employed by ryder when accounts end

    I worked at Ryder System

    Pros

    You have a job in lansing, in a poor job market. The people that you work with at your level. You can have a bond with your peers. Ryder the company was a good company to work for.

    Cons

    You are managed by fear and intimidation, you are not respected for your job knowledge or the job you do. You only see the upper management if you have something go wrong you are never recognized for a job well done. If you challenge the upper management, state a fact of the way it is, disagree with anything they say or do you are labeled as uncooperative and not with the program. They do not want supervisors that can think they just want them to do whatever they say and not question there decisions. There was a survey done and 65% of the supervisor said they would leave in the next two weeks if a similar job was available to them. The upper management did nothing with the survey even though they said they would. They have you work weeks on weekend without weekends off (customer is demanding this) however, when the customer is not working and you are looking for a break from weekends the upper management will make a manadatory weekend to cover some trivial item and not compensate you for your time. If you are a strong supervisor do not apply here you will not last they only want the weak supervisors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do a fair a unobjectional job of research when you get a complaint at your 1 800 number. There have been many complaints to this number and the issue has just been rubberstamped or not even investigated. Just a note this is not the ranting of an irate supervisor, I was not terminated...but had to leave because the upper management had a chance to downsize when gm had their issues and they cleared the deck of older, seasoned, and higher paid supervisors and kept the weaker 'yes man' supervisors. In fact they had the opportunity to rehire many of us and for a strange reason (no jobs in lansing) we wanted and needed to come back they only gave us a token interview and hired all new!

    I have been working at Ryder System

    Pros

    Management knows the business. Definately learn and grow a lot. Was able to complete a lot of on the job training. Built a strong network

    Cons

    Partially due to the economy...lower pay compared to competitors. Expect everyone to produce as if you are 1 1/2 a person but at 1/3 less pay than competitors. Do not advertise many open positions so unless you know the right people you cannot apply for many jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Although the economy is taking its toll on all companies, be sure to reward that middle management on the front lines. Upper management gets taken care of as do hourly employees (incentive/bonus not salary) but the front line supervisors do not (and a lot is expected from them).
