S.C. Johnson – “Great internship; wouldn't work there”
1 of 1 people found this helpfulPros
Good work-life balance, culture of putting employees first actually seems genuine; company has a policy of not laying off employees, so job security is good
Cons
Physical work environment sucks, at least for us IT folks. Think dingy, gray, windowless cubicle farms with atrocious lighting. Even better was wandering through parts of the buildings that were obviously designed for humans, with non-beige paint, plants, natural light and everything, and knowing I'd never have an office or cubicle there. As an intern, I got to develop software, but I was told that even the appdev team generally doesn't do that anymore, and a lot of the actual employees were jealous of my assignment.
Advice to Senior Management
Do IT employees really need to be housed in the same building as the servers? The lack of natural light and any sort of color was seriously getting to me at the end of 3 months, and this was during the summer. I shudder to think of working there in the winter months.
