OK company to work for - UK and Europe are quite badly split from SABIC global!

  2. SABIC-IP: going downhill, still trying to find where to be profitable.

    Pros

Relaxed environment, not very stressful. Initial compensation is good compared to other local companies. Entering through the rotations programs gives a good overview of ChE positions.

    Cons

The company has gone through some major events lately: being sold by GE, acquisition by SABIC, crisis, lay-outs, change of culture, change of manufacturing work structure, now reorganization in R&D.. completely lost track and vision. Unclear future. They strive to realize their products are now comodities, big marketing numbers with current portfolio are dreams. Not a company for experts - they lack the departments, resources and recognition. Furthermore, there is no career path if you are not in headquarters, nor any serious development plan. Thus, experienced people left and a lot of the know-how from the past on engineering polymers is now lost. Manufacturing sites are plagued with their own "mobs", people that joined early but don't stand to the job; managerial positions are taken forever, and if anything, they just rotate among the same usual suspects. Lots of politics, talking, and little action or progress - this is true company wide. Compensation - after a few years, poor, not competitive within the market.

    Advice to Management

Forget the short term, purge the company from former GE-era managers (if they were top-class in GE culture, they cannot fit in SABIC), build a solid company with the foundation of top-class technical expertise.
