Pros

Most of the operators and maintenance workers have worked for over 20 years at the same plant. Most are very helpful in communicating process knowledge. Pay was very competitive, and a 40-50 hr/week schedule was encouraged among exempt employees. The atmosphere was very non-competitive, yet everyone worked hard.

Cons

Upper management was not very personable. Oftentimes, the business results from the VP were too sugar-coated.

Advice to Management

Communicate better with non-exempt employees, in ways they can appreciate. Appreciate and acknowledge their accomplishments with more quantifiable methods.

    Pros

    - Strong, stable parent
    - Excellent benefits and competitive pay
    - Strong portfolio and world-class products and services
    - Good HR practices/career advancement opportunities
    - Business performance improving - no longer in "panic mode"
    - Strong emphasis on safety

    Cons

    - Several reorgs - lack of stability
    - Most strong top leadership has left company
    - Parent company does not support modern, progressive business and HR practices - very hierarchical and bureaucratic
    - Remote locations

    Advice to Management

Stabilize the company, reinvigorate top leadership team, help managers refocus on leading teams, and don't let parent (SABIC) set us back 50 years.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Fair pay packages, opportunities to grow within the organization

    Cons

Poor management, poorly integrated organization (left hand definitely doesn't talk to the right), still has many issues with the SABIC sale from GE, legacy employees only know (or care about) GE way of doing things, poor IT infrastructure, training issues across the board.

    Advice to Management

Focus on streamlining the organization, contrary to historic belief- details do matter.
