SAP – “pretty good big corporate job”
Pros
SAP executive management is direct and clear with respect to communications, both not overdoing the positive and not obscuring the negative. As a whole, employees are treated as adults. Good salaries and benefits. Many nice people.
Cons
Heavy layers of bureaucracy with multiple different and overlapping levels of monitoring and tracking. Conservative tech environment with respect to the tools used and acceptable approaches. Hierarchical culture with jobs having very specific duties restrains passion and excitement.
Advice to Senior Management
Identify senior managers who only manage up by surveying their direct reports 1 or 2 levels down and get rid of them. There are many good managers/executives, but the machiavellian ones last too long at SAP.
