Not the Nirvana that P.R. would have you believe it is.

I have been working at SAS Institute full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Not what it used to be, but still not a bad place to work.

    Cons

Ponderous bureaucracy with too many incompetent managers. Way too much internal competition and politics. The employee-centric culture that made SAS standout 20 years ago, has eroded and the company is becoming just another software company.

    Advice to Management

    Read the "Peter Principle".

I worked at SAS Institute part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management treats you like an adult and is honest. Super work life balance. Free Gym and subsidized lunch.

    Cons

Advancement is limited so better REALLY enjoy what you currently do. In the wrong groups politics can be a major problem among peers, probably because of limited advancement opportunities. There's a sub culture of infidelity in certain areas of the company that have ruined marriages but is considered acceptable work behavior as long as it doesn't spill over.

    Advice to Management

Freedom of expression is great and letting people be themselves is fine. But letting environment get too unprofessional will not make it Google in itself.
