Project management team was consistently overworked, and underappreciated.

    I worked at SDL Tridion

    Pros

    - Fast paced work environment, employees are able to pick up tasks quickly, gain more responsibility, and become valuable members of the team
    - Exposure to working on high profile accounts
    - SDL is a very well established company in the globalization industry
    - Able to make great connections with people at other companies through various translation projects.
    - Fun to work for a company with offices all over the world, and be able to communicate with hundreds of people in other countries on a daily basis.

    Cons

    - Very long hours. When you interview, they make it seem like a few extra hours of overtime each week - when it's usually at least two/three hours a day.
    - If employees aren't working more than 45-50 hours a week, it's viewed as a reason not to promote you.
    - The upper management does little to recognize success and hard work throughout the project management team. They offer employee of the month (which was forgotten several times while I worked there), and monthly lunches for meeting their 'numbers' - but most the time employees didn't have the opportunity to enjoy it, and would have to grab food and head back to to their desks and keep working.
    - Project Coordinators were paid hourly, which was great because of how much overtime most people were working. However, when people were promoted to Assistant Project Manager, employees were usually making less money, because they were on salary.
    - Upper management reacted very unprofessionally when some people resigned, or were asked to leave the company.
    - There is a lot of gossip around the office. It makes a lot of the employees feel insecure, and uncomfortable in the work environment.
    - Very high turnover rate. After several people left in 2011, they promoted the majority of the project management team in order to prevent more people leaving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more appreciative of the hard work your employees put in for the company. Employees are constantly reminded of hows successful the company is, it would be nice for them to be rewarded for their loyalty and dedication.
