ProsSerena does offer some room for advancement if you are in the right place at the right time. The base pay is about in line with their direct competitors.

ConsIt is very "clickish". There is a group of individuals who have worked there a very long time (old Merant employees) and they "run" the place. They are not the executives, but they are in the middle management layer that directly affects the daily lives of the average employee.

Additionally, I believe Serena has an identity issue. They are not sure who they want to be. Their latest bid is to become a SaaS driven company and they have almost destroyed their current business trying to change course at ALL COST.

Serena has had large (10% or more) layoffs starting in Fall '08.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a serious look at your middle management.....you know the ones.......they have been around 10 years or more. Give them a serious evaluation to determine if they are right for Serena.

    Milking the cash cow to death

    Pros: Good people, though not many are left. Cons: Frequent changes of management and ownership got in the way of long term strategies.
