Pros

Solid software products, great product support and knowledgable consultants

Cons

Management changes strategy every year, alot of software products have been added to portfolio through acquiring different companies - thus product suite may overlap functionality and/or lack standardization

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more efforts in standardizing internal processes on delivering to clients.

    I worked at SERENA Software full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Prior to current exec mgmt, great environment to grow professionally, employees were respected and well paid, sound execution and solid products. In some ways, we were ahead of the curve with Mashups and trying to go cloud.

    Cons

    Exec mgmt changes the company direction and vision annually without successful execution. People are no longer valued as we once were. Raises have been non-existent for over 4 years. Going private was a terrible mistake as it handcuffed innovation.

    Value your people. They are your greatest asset.

    I worked at SERENA Software full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - good office
    - IT staff is really responsive
    - compensation is OK though the benefits package get worse every year
    - Some of the employees know what they are doing

    Cons

    - failing business model
    - failing product strategy - "old" products maintenance revenue is dropping dramatically and have little to no new sales, as there are much better open source alternatives, the "new" products are joke
    - the overall quality of products and customer satisfaction is awful, some of the customers are in constant escalation mode - it takes over 50 support tickets and multiple escalation to get a problem solved for 6 months-1 year period.
    - overall atmosphere of politics and backstabbing, multiple changes in senior leadership in the last 4 years.
    - total lack of accountability and measurement of success. promotions are considered on a "who is on my side" method
    - more directors and VPs than developers
    - due to the 7 wave of layoffs in the last 4 years there is serious lack of deep technical expertise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - people that are in charge for product strategies should get a new career far away from this field
    - sluggish and inefficient process and internal tools
    - make good products, that the users will like
