I worked at SHRM full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

The benefits here are very, very good and they have no choice but to respect work/life balance as an organization who supports such initiatives.

Cons

The answer you will most commonly hear at SHRM is that "this is the way it's always been done." If you consider yourself a progressive, forward thinker this not the place for you. It is very political and the people in management that have been there 10+ years have all the power and throw their weight around to get their way...whether or not it's in the best interest of the organization as a whole.

    Pros

    Supportive managers and pleasant people.

    Cons

SHRM admits that advancement potential is extremely limited for those below the director level. Identifying those with under-used talents and creating positions in which they can better apply their skills and experience just is not part of the culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come out of the C-suite (in a separate building!) and walk around Carlyle. Create positions for those with key talents, rather than advising them to move out if they want to move up.
