Current Employee - Senior Vice President Marketing in Rochester, NY

I have been working at SIGMA Marketing Insights

Pros

Despite it's relatively small size, SIGMA is on the cutting edge of marketing and technology and encourages innovation and collaboration between employees. Our clients are top companies across North American and you'll get a wonderful level of experience working with these leading marketers. A number of employees have worked with SIGMA more than once, returning when they got an opportunity.

Cons

The smallish size of the company in a highly competitive field does limit the income and benefits potential

I worked at SIGMA Marketing Insights

    Pros

Sigma understands that it needs to hire new people, and they often hire straight out of college. There's not a lot going on in Rochester NY so if you have your heart set on living here this is a pretty good place to find a job. There are a lot of good ideas in the very senior levels of management which will cause the company to grow, so they will be hiring quite a lot.

    Cons

Top-heavy management which is clueless about technology issues. That's not to say that they are bad managers, because some of them are quite good, but that is to say that they shouldn't be managing programming projects. There's not much process in place and this results in frequent drama.

They are being dragged into the 21st century kicking and screaming.

Technical talent isn't very highly regarded, but keeping in line is. While it is recognized that new ideas are required it is a little ironic that new ideas are seen as threatening, and anything that challenges the status quo is bad. They lose good talent that way.

Also, abandon all hope of becoming great at anything you do here. Not only is the bar set pretty low, but also there is no mentorship, or training of any sort. You are forced to get by with just winging it most of the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Simply have less management.

    Pros

National clients, cutting-edge projects, opportunity to be innovative

    Cons

For last 5 years owned by private equity firm. Over-focused on monthly revenue instead of innovative ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more chances and let employees do what they best at — innovate.
