    I worked at SMC Corporation full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Now? Can't think of a single one. 8 years ago? SMC used to be a great company to work for. Great products, great benefits, great middle management.

    Cons

    Upper management at SMC are not in the position they are now because they are competent . Nepotism (even though against company policy) is pervasive among management. Most got the title of manager simply by either being a blood relative or high school friends. If neither of those two qualifications were met simply saying yes to every monumentally stupid idea management put forward quickly earned them a manager title.

    Sales reps are not trusted, so much so that management decided it was a great idea start tracking sales reps via GPS and daily itinerary reports. This was done because in their minds it would make the sales force "more productive" and would result in greater sales. In reality it has driven off quality sales reps, completely demotivated current sales reps, and has made the competition very happy.

    Salary is not anywhere near the industry average although HR will say otherwise. New sales reps (with little to no fluid power experience) have been hired in the last year to replace the mass exodus of long term quality sales reps (who often leave for competitors) are hired in at a SIGNIFICANTLY higher salary than an current experienced SMC sales rep. Raises based on merit or years of service to get you anywhere near the middle of your salary are non existent, HR turns them all down because "it's too high of a percentage". Well of course it is when you pay someone that's been there for 5+ years $15,000 less than you just hired some joker off the street for. Bonuses account for a large portion of a sales reps income and even if 100% of plan is achieved and the company posts records sales you're lucky if you get 50%.

    Product quality was always the best selling point against the competition, although you could never actually deliver it in time. Product quality has slowly eroded over the past few years in favor of larger margins and cost savings not passed on to the customer. SMC is falling off a cliff and quickly due poor decisions made US management. It's truly sad to see the decline of a once great and dominate company caused by senior management and the "yes men" they have surrounded themselves with

    SMC US management has no accountability due to nepotism. SMC JAPAN WAKE UP!!!!!

    Japan will have to step in and right the ship, the sooner the better before it's too late.
