I worked at SPARTA

Pros

Generous profit sharing plan. Management in some offices is very good. Recently acquired by an employee owned company, which bodes well for SPARTAns.

Cons

If your position is eliminated from your contract, good luck staying on with the company. They have not been very successful in winning new business lately. Since being acquired, benefits have been cut deeply.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire me to help with proposal efforts, in a lead role. Don't let other companies get away with unfair business practices. Expand into non-defense fields. Systems Engineering can be applied to many types of industries and organizations.

I have been working at SPARTA

    Pros

SPARTA works on many unique, high-value technical projects for the government. Working on these projects with peers of amazing technical ability is wonderful. SPARTA also has a wonderful work-life balance and is flexible. The 15% contribution to 401(k) as a retirement plan is great benefit to have.

    Cons

SPARTA does not actively develop or train its employees. With a very flat management structure (15-30 employees per manager) and little distinction between coworkers, there is very little opportunity for advancement. Management is not well-versed in things you would expect from management, such as project management, business development, likely due to the fact that all come from technical backgrounds with out management training. Communication is lacking, even between the independently-operated divisions at the lowest level of the organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to actively develop employees and management skills and take annual reviews seriously. There is no mechanism to provide feedback to management. Management also needs more focus on a larger team strategy and business development is going to be necessary to grow as a business bidding larger programs.
