I have been working at SRI International full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Very exciting projects, relaxed atmosphere, good people, decent work-life balance. The company has high ethics and values and it shows in much of the work it does. University-like atmosphere.

Cons

Some of the buildings are old, some processes/ systems could be more up-to-date, people stuff should be as innovative as the products - Sometimes I feel we are not pushing ourselves hard enough.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your team, drive them to take more risks; become less reliant on Government projects (co. is already moving in that direction)

I have been working at SRI International full-time

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere. As long as you are billable and your lab is profitable, you can do whatever kind of work and for almost any client. It's a diverse workforce and there are a lot of eclectic, smart and dedicated researchers to collaborate with.

    Cons

Senior management is disconnected from rank and file. All they care about is compliance and profitability without understanding what motivates research staff (not money, because it does not pay competitively). Little consultation with staff on policies that affect them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember who is making the money and paying your high salaires. The senior executive on overhead - you are a big cost to a company this size.

It was challenging, rigorous, and boring all at the same time.

I have been working at SRI International as an intern

    Pros

Intelligent colleagues but there's not much interest from them towards helping others. Assumption is that everyone comes in, contributes, goes home. No one will really bother you as long as you do your work

    Cons

Not really any camaraderie, and no real excitement. If you're looking for a place to go where you'll bond with colleagues and live an incredibly exciting life -- this is not the place for you. Could be if you looking for vice versa.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Inspire competition and camaraderie.
