    I worked at STARA Technologies (More than a year)

    Pros

    The people there are really amazing to work with. A lot of time can be spent learning new things and improving various skills. The company overall does a great job of taking care of its employees.

    Cons

    The other people there are really terrible to work under. A lot of time was spent redoing work and rushing around. The company overall does a great job of ignoring and laying off its employees.

    Advice to Management

    Innovate and broaden your horizons. If your company is going to succeed it will need to diversify. Many of the financial problems you run into are due to the fact that you have limited yourself to one large unforgiving customer and a handful of low margin products.

    Pros

    STARA has some very interesting projects involving new technologies for military and government agencies to work on.

    Cons

    STARA is primarily a hardware company with software more as an "after thought" or a "necessary evil" in order to sell hardware. As a result, there is always very limited budget allocated for software appliction development.

    Advice to Management

    Software is a vital part of what sells hardware. It's what the cusotmer sees a lot more than the hardware. If you shift the company focus slightly from just hardware and minimal software to seeing software as a profit center should pay big rewards for additional work and revenue. It's software that frequently sells the hardware.
