I worked at SUPERVALU

Pros

Strong management team, solid leadership, empoyee feedback solicited on a regular basis, feel like part of team, leaders are accountable, training and career development efforts are top notch, not afraid to invest in their people, salaries are very fair. Even though their stock has plummeted, so have many other companies in the Grocery industry. I think SUPERVALU will continue to be in the top 3, good or bad economy.

Cons

A large company can come with beauracy, decision making processes can be slow at times. They are perhaps a little too focused on the number of projects put through the pipeline, rather than on the quality and ROI of those projects. With Paul Singer as CIO this will most likely change for the better though.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Always treat employees with respect and dignity.

Rewarding jobs are available, but understaffing some key projects and offshoring may prove the company's downfall

I have been working at SUPERVALU

    Pros

As a software engineer, a motivated person will have the opportunity to work with a wide variety of technologies and busniess problems. Creativity is a big part of the job.

    Cons

Senior IT leadership has been trying to move as many jobs as possible to India -- despite significant differences in competency and quality, employees are often made to feel . Beyond IT, it sometimes seems as though there is such an intense, relentless promotion of certain initiatives and departments within the company, and this can often come at the expense of other areas that are almost if not equally as important.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) Don't forget where the company came from, and recognize that more than one segment of the business can be an asset. 2) Don't fall into the trap of thinking that well educated US-based employees (often with graduate degrees and many years of experience) can be replaced by someone in India with 1-2 year. They can't, and you risk driving away some of the company's best human assets.
